Artist Bio
Rungploy Lorpaitoon
(b. 1990, Bangkok, Thailand)
Rungploy Lorpaitoon is a Bangkok-based textile artist whose work explores resilience, adaptation, and the beauty of imperfection. Born with four fingers on her left hand, Rungploy's early life was defined by the necessity of adapting to her environment—a journey that eventually became the catalyst for her artistic exploration of self-healing and social integration.
Artistic Philosophy and Practice
Rungploy's creative foundation began with a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, where she developed a deep fascination with fiber and textiles—particularly the ethereal qualities of organza. She later transitioned into the realm of Fine Art, earning a Master's degree that shifted her focus toward large-scale installation and multidimensional fabric art.
Her practice is an investigation into the dualities of existence. By drawing inspiration from the "darker" or more "imperfect" facets of life, she illustrates that the path between hardship and growth is often interconnected. Her work posits that "mistakes" are not failures, but rather essential materials for drafting new experiences. Through the tactile nature of her chosen media, she invites viewers to reconsider the irreversible moments of life as opportunities for imaginative transformation.
Notable Achievements
Rungploy's most recognized installation, LIFEWAVES, has gained international acclaim. In 2019, the work was featured at the prestigious NordArt exhibition in Büdelsdorf, Germany, where she was honored with the Biafarin Award, a distinction determined by public vote. LIFEWAVES has also been exhibited globally, including at the Chic Evolution in Art Gallery in Miami and the People Gallery at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).
